Johnson & Johnson stands trial for the opioid crisis

The latest company to be called to account for perpetuating the nation’s opioid crisis is the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. The state of Oklahoma sued Johnson & Johnson, along with companies Purdue Pharma (maker of OxyContin) and Teva Pharmaceuticals, claiming they created a public health crisis that killed thousands of Oklahoma residents. The latter two companies settled out of court for hundreds of millions of dollars. 

Oklahoma claims Johnson & Johnson created an oversupply of opioid-based prescription drugs, aggressively marketed them to doctors, and created an epidemic that amounts to a public nuisance.
